Transportation

The transportation system is the backbone of a community.  Without a functioning transportation system, efforts at improved economic development, emergency response, movement of goods from one region to another are all impossible. Public transportation is a component of this system that is often overlooked, particularly in smaller, more rural areas like the Texoma region. One of the ways that TCOG is helping to address this issue is through the development of a regionally coordinated transportation plan which helps identify all of the publicly-funded transit programs and plans for ways to streamline the services to ensure that the maximum number of people is being served, even with limited resources.

The Sherman-Denison Metropolitan Planning Organization, for whom TCOG acts as the fiscal agent, focuses on transportation planning for the area that is projected to be considered “urban” in the next twenty years. Anchored by Sherman and Denison, this area also includes Pottsboro, Southmayd, Knollwood, Dorchester, Howe, Gunter, and Van Alstyne.
